Spring 2020 has been a roller-coaster ride for the anime community. With the coronavirus pandemic forcing the entire industry to rethink their plans, a lot of the anticipated titles have been moved off either later this year or the next. This made the list of shows for Spring smaller and I am so glad that they didn’t shelf a show like Kaguya-sama: Love Is War.
As we push towards this complicated maze of life, there are standards in which we bestow upon ourselves in order to become the best for someone – whether that would be for ourselves, our families, or a special someone. Of course, there will always be hiccups to this struggle to build our “best selves” and it’s something that is portrayed in Kakushigoto with a lot of entertainment value. Taking something so relatable and making it super hilarious is what makes Kakushigoto shine as an anime series.
With the community quarantine in my area, there seems to be no excuse to not get back into the anime grind. The first thing that caught my eye for this year’s spring season was the anime series My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! or HameFura for short. Categorized into the romantic comedy genre with the interesting premise of isekai-ng the main character into her favorite otome game as the villainess is definitely something that would raise eyebrows.
A lot of shows are ending at this point and I must say, we’ve been spoiled with some pretty good titles – one of which would be Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku. The series is a rather different approach to the rom-com genre with the office setting and it has been a blast watching it.
With summer at its peak from where I am, there has never been a point when watching anime was out of the equation. Being the romance-comedy loving freak I am, it’s not a surprise that most of the shows I’m getting into, at the moment, are really fluffy and wholesome. Now, let us talk Love Lab.
There has been a growing popularity for shows that portray a cast of women oddities such as monsters, animals and the like. Usually these anime would be set in the harem-genre where a normal, human male main character is surrounded by women with special physical attributes. However, Interviews with Monster Girls takes it to a more fluffy and wholesome approach.
The best thing about being behind and not following seasonal anime religiously is that you can freely watch new shows from the previous months. One of these shows that I wanted to get down and watch was Interviews with Monster Girls. Various clips of Hikari and her cute, vampire antics scattered throughout the web has definitely piqued my interest for this show.
Romance-comedy anime has always been what I personally consider as one of my favorite genres. The pacing from light-hearted humor transitioning to the eventual romantic development between characters is just something that gets me excited whenever I watch a new show. This spring season is no different and one of those shows might be Wotaku ni Koi wa Muzukashii.
Usually there’s that group of shows that doesn’t get too serious nor does it get too dull. Rather, it tries to make sure that the audience is well-entertained, compelled, and satisfied. In this season, Blend S is one of those shows that pride itself with that good ol’ comedy.
